Description:
Congressman Steven Horsford seeks an experienced full-time Legislative Assistant for his Washington, D.C. office.
Responsibilities:
The Legislative Assistant will manage the Congressman’s portfolio for the House Ways and Means Subcommittees on Work and Family Support and on Social Security, as well as issues related to immigration, homeland security, judiciary, veterans, humanities, and other assigned policy areas.
• Collaborates with the Legislative Director to develop and advance legislative
initiatives within assigned issue areas;
• Tracks legislation, hearings, regulatory actions, and policy developments; prepare
briefings for floor activity, committee work, district engagements, and external
events;
• Represents the Congressman at meetings with constituents, advocacy
organizations, stakeholders, and senior government officials;
• Coordinates with district office staff to support community events, town halls, and
local stakeholder engagement;
• Partners with communications staff to contribute to speeches, press releases, op-eds, talking points, and digital content
• Serves as liaison to committees, federal departments, and agencies to advance
legislative priorities
• Acts as a liaison with committee and Federal departments and agencies to
communicate and coordinate information regarding specific legislative matters
• Prepares comprehensive briefing materials for hearings, markups, meetings, and
votes
• Drafts policy memos, legislative language, vote recommendations, and talking
points
• Additional duties as assigned by the Legislative Director, Director of Operations, and
Chief of Staff
Qualifications:
Requirements:
• Prior legislative and/or Capitol Hill experience required
• Strong understanding of the legislative process, congressional procedure, and
federal regulatory frameworks
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce
clear, persuasive materials for diverse audiences
• Demonstrated attention to detail and commitment to high-quality, accurate work
• Proven ability to anticipate needs and deliver results in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
• Skilled relationship-builder with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams
and with external partners
• Flexible, adaptable, and responsive to evolving priorities
