The U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee, Minority staff seeks a Legislative Aide to support the committee’s work on education. Responsibilities:
, this position is responsible for: • Providing support to Policy Advisors working across early childhood education, K-12, higher education, and workforce issues. • Drafting or contributing to policy briefs, talking points, legislation, and other policy-related documents. • Providing administrative and policy support for committee hearings and markups. • Supporting office operations and administrative tasks for the education team, including coordinating interns and fellows, supporting scheduling, and managing internal processes. • Responding to incoming mail in the Member’s voice in a timely manner. • Representing Ranking Member Sanders in meetings with constituents and education organizations. Preferred experience: • At least 1-2 years of relevant experience in education policy. • Hill experience preferred, Vermont ties a plus. What makes a strong candidate? • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in collecting, synthesizing, and evaluating information to support policymakers—often in time-sensitive situations. • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively in different contexts, through different products, and to different audiences. • Familiarity with and supportive of Ranking Member Sanders’ education policy positions. • Strong organizational skills and ability to contribute to several projects simultaneously and support team members. • Excellent attention to detail. • Demonstrated ability to plan effectively and the flexibility to handle the unexpected. • Enjoy a fast-paced environment and work well under pressure. • A commitment to supporting the learning of other team members and working collaboratively in ways that support their success on projects.
