Description:
Press Secretary Rep. Eric Sorensen seeks a creative, detail-oriented, and experienced Press Secretary to join his Congressional office in Illinois' 17th Congressional District.
Responsibilities:
Work collaboratively with the Communications Director to develop a comprehensive, District-based communications strategy to achieve the Member’s legislative and communications priorities. Work with the team to build, manage, and execute press events, including in-person and virtual press conferences, tele-townhalls, earned media events, and press interviews. Draft remarks, including talking points for the Congressman and team members, memo writing, press releases and advisories, and scripts for short- and long-form videos. Collaborate actively with the legislative and District teams to ensure cohesive messaging on constituent services, policy rollouts, and district events. Establish and develop productive relationships with in-district and Illinois reporters to successfully pitch and field stories, including supporting the team with rapid response as needed. Work in collaboration with senior communications team members in Washington, D.C. on digital content, including drafting, editing, graphics, and videos for social media channels and the website.
Qualifications:
Two to three years of communications experience. Demonstrated record of establishing and maintaining relationships with the press. Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-visibility office. Ability to work flexible hours as required to support the Member's objectives.
