Description:
Representative Laura Friedman seeks a Legislative Assistant for duties including but not limited to: staffing the Representative’s work on the Committee on Science, Space and Technology; managing a portfolio to include science, space, technology, telecommunications, energy, foreign affairs, defense, veterans, and tribal issues; working with the Legislative Director and Chief of Staff to formulate and advance legislative initiatives for assigned issue areas; drafting and editing legislation, amendments, resolutions, letters and memos; building relationships with relevant stakeholders; representing the Member at meetings with constituents and interest groups; tracking legislation and coordinating co-sponsorship of bills for the Member; tracking and briefing the member on developments in their policy areas; briefing the Member on bills before the House, providing advice on Committee activity, and assisting the district office staff with legislative matters that impact the local community; providing input to the Communications Director to draft speeches, press releases, op-eds, and Congressional Record statements for the Member; supporting constituent service through agency and policy knowledge; providing district office staff with targeted information for community events.

Qualifications:
Applicants should have a strong understanding of science, space, technology, telecommunications, energy, foreign affairs, defense, veterans, and tribal issues; excellent writing, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines; ability to build relationships with stakeholders and represent the Member at meetings; ability to track and analyze legislation and provide advice on Committee activity.
