Description:
Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon (PA-05) seeks a detail-oriented individual to cover her work as Ranking Member of the Constitution Subcommittee of the House Judiciary Committee in her Washington, D.C. office.
Responsibilities:
Managing and preparing materials for Judiciary hearings, markups, and committee business, especially with regard to the Representative’s role on the Constitution Subcommittee; Developing legislative proposals and strategy, drafting and editing legislation; Tracking and evaluating legislation; Preparing memos, floor statements, and remarks; Representing the office with stakeholders and constituents, and maintaining collaborative relationships with district stakeholders and in-district staff; Tracking relevant news related to their issue areas and providing analysis and recommendations to the Member.
Qualifications:
A successful candidate will have prior experience navigating committee work and a strong interest and expertise in relevant policy areas. A law degree is preferred. Prior experience as a Legislative Assistant/Counsel and familiarity with the issues in the portfolio are also preferred. Qualified candidates should have strong writing skills, effective time management, and experience in strategic planning.
