Description:
Congressman Sean Casten (IL-06) is seeking a highly motivated, committed, and team-oriented individual to join his Congressional office in Washington, DC.
Responsibilities:
Working closely with the Member and Chief of Staff to develop and execute the Member's legislative strategy; Managing a large legislative team and ensure staff are positioned to support and advance the Member's legislative strategy; Building relationships and coalitions with Member offices, committee staff, leadership staff, and external stakeholders to advance the Member's priorities through the legislative process; Advising and making recommendations to the Member and Chief of Staff on floor votes and policy positions; Overseeing and advising on Committee business and activity, in coordination with the legislative team, to meet the Member's priorities; Translating current events, Member priorities, and district needs into legislation, amendments, letters, and other legislative opportunities Working collaboratively with other members of the senior staff to ensure office priorities and cross-departmental work align with the Member's legislative goals; Providing policy input to the Communications Director on draft speeches, press releases, social content, and other materials; Drafting and editing legislation, amendments, letters, memos, committee remarks, and talking points; Tracking and briefing the Member and Chief of Staff on developments in priority policy areas, including impacts to the district, and House business; Managing a portfolio of issue areas including oversight, foreign affairs, defense, and appropriations.
Qualifications:
At least 4-6 years of legislative experience in a Congressional office; Strong management and leadership experience; Demonstrated ability to craft policy, manage competing priorities, and operate effectively under tight deadlines; Excellent judgment and decision-making skills; Strong written and verbal communication skills; Experience with appropriations and the legislative process.
