Description:
Senior Midwestern Democrat, and Appropriations Ranking Member, seeks a creative, proactive, and experienced Press & Digital Assistant to join a fast-paced team. This is a full-time position with occasional evening and weekend work as the legislative process and news cycle requires. This position may also involve occasional travel to the Member’s district office.
Responsibilities:
- Draft press releases, social media, talking points, scripts, speeches, newsletters, and other written materials - Help develop and execute digital strategy across platforms - Produce graphics and visual content for social media, newsletters, and official communications - Coordinate with Communications Director and the district office to promote constituent services and local events - Work with Communications Director to oversee interns who compile and distribute biweekly press clips
- Photograph and record video of Member at official events and in meetings
- Provide additional communications and administrative support as needed
Qualifications:
Candidates should possess graphic design expertise, social media or speech writing skills, and have familiarity with photography. Video editing and web design skills considered a plus. Strong written and verbal communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment are critical. The ideal candidate works well under pressure, has excellent judgment and organizational abilities, pays close attention to detail, and juggles multiple projects simultaneously. Demonstrating an eagerness to learn and grow within the office, and a desire to be part of a highly-collaborative, high-achieving team is valued. We are looking for someone with a strong work ethic, good sense of humor, and an inventive and problem-solving mindset. At least two-three years of relevant experience is encouraged as are any Congressional experience and Midwest ties.
