Description:
Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) seeks a Communications Director. This position is based in Washington, D.C., with occasional travel to the district as needed, and reports to the Chief of Staff.
Responsibilities:
The Communications Director leads a dynamic communications operation in a proactive and collaborative office. The Communications Director will be responsible for developing and executing, in partnership with the Congressman, Chief of Staff, Deputy Chief of Staff, Legislative Director, District team, and Press Assistant, a comprehensive communications strategy that advances the Representative’s legislative and local priorities with local and national media as well as digital audiences. - Drafting and editing press releases, op-eds, e-newsletters, talking points, speeches, and other written materials.
- Overseeing and optimizing the Representative’s digital presence, including social media platforms, website, and multimedia content.
- Pitching the Representative for media opportunities.
- Coordinating interviews, press conferences, and public events in Washington, D.C. and in IL-10. - Overseeing and managing a franking operation, including newsletters, e-blasts, and other constituent communications in compliance with House rules.
- Monitoring press coverage, providing media analysis, and advising the Representative and staff on messaging.
- Collaborating with legislative and district staff to ensure consistent, effective communication of policy initiatives and constituent services.
Qualifications:
- Extensive experience working with local and national media, including Capitol Hill reporters, local and national tv bookers/producers, and new media outlets.
- Exceptionally strong written and verbal communication skills - Expertise in advising others on a communications strategy and influencing media coverage
- Demonstrated time management skills, ability to work under pressure, and comfort balancing multiple responsibilities at once - Commitment to and ability to collaborate and work with a team - Attention to detail
