Description:
The Office of Congresswoman Lauren Underwood (IL-14) seeks an experienced Health Legislative Assistant or Policy Advisor to lead a portfolio focused on health and veterans' policy.
Responsibilities:
Drafting and analyzing legislation; senior-level negotiation and policy/strategy development; developing and leading outreach initiatives; building and managing stakeholder coalitions; working with interns and the Communications team to run the BMHC newsletter and social media; conducting research and monitoring relevant internal and external developments; drafting policy memos, talking points, and remarks; meeting with constituents; staffing events and hearings; and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Curiosity and a commitment to public service; excellent legislative drafting and analysis skills; the ability to quickly execute multiple concurrent projects in a fast-paced environment; strong research, fact-checking, writing, and communication skills; organization and attention to detail; the ability to distill complex information in a way that is compelling to different audiences; bipartisan interpersonal and advocacy skills; and a strong working knowledge of federal policymaking and health policy subject matter.
