Description:
Congresswoman Hillary Scholten seeks a Press Assistant/Legislative Correspondent to help plan and draft media materials, respond to constituent mail, and proactively reach constituents with correspondence targeted to their policy interests.
Responsibilities:
Execute strategy and build relationships with Michigan and national press, expanding reach and presence; Organize and coordinate events with the media; Oversee proactive press planning and rapid response operation; Draft and manage timely, responsive correspondence to constituent outreach; Maintain, update, and expand the office's letter library; Track, analyze, and synthesize constituent input; Develop proactive written outreach to constituents; Collaborate proactively with the legislative and district teams; Provide support as needed to the digital content operation.
Qualifications:
1-2 years of communications and correspondence experience, including a successful track record in journalism or executing communications strategy for a Member of Congress, elected official, Federal agency, private, and/or non-profit organization; Ability to make split-second decisions and develop communications under tight deadlines; Political savvy and comfort navigating difficult situations with press and staff; Strong written and verbal communication skills; Expertise in advising others on a communication strategy and influencing coverage; Time management skills, ability to work under pressure, and comfort balancing multiple responsibilities at once; Ability to collaborate with issue experts and other coworkers; Attention to detail; Experience building and maintaining relationships with local and national press corps; Ability to manage and work collaboratively as a team player.
