Description:
In this exciting role at our Washington, D.C.-based trade association, we are looking for an experienced, strategic professional to join our team in advancing Farm Credit’s mission to support rural communities and agriculture.- Legislative monitoring — Closely monitors legislative activity in the United States Senate and represents Farm Credit’s interests in legislative initiatives.- Congressional experience — Deep experience (5+ years) working with or for the Congress, especially the Senate.
Responsibilities:
• - Legislative monitoring — Closely monitors legislative activity in the United States Senate and represents Farm Credit’s interests in legislative initiatives. • - Relationship building — Builds relationships with key lawmakers and their staffs (both House and Senate), Administration officials, and other key stakeholders impacting public policy matters. • - Information networks — Develops information networks to proactively identify policy threats to and opportunities for Farm Credit’s mission. • - Agriculture advocacy — Promotes the interests of the U.S. agricultural industry and Farm Credit to policy audiences. • - Institutional collaboration — Works in close cooperation with individual Farm Credit institutions on legislative, regulatory, and other policy initiatives, including traveling to various Farm Credit institution locations and other events outside of Washington, DC. • - Workgroup management — Manages workgroups within Farm Credit to develop policy positions.
Qualifications:
• - Congressional experience — Deep experience (5+ years) working with or for the Congress, especially the Senate. • - Legislative knowledge — Thorough knowledge of the legislative process, politics, and relevant House and Senate Committees. • - Communication skills — Ability to effectively verbally articulate and write about complex political issues. • - Agriculture industry knowledge — Deep knowledge of the politics of the agriculture industry and the ability to develop relationships with key stakeholders. • - Bipartisan work — Demonstrated ability to work in a bi‑partisan political environment. • - Business understanding — Ability to, with relevant training, understand complex business issues, especially those involving financial services providers.
