Description:
Legislative Affairs SpecialistCompile weekly statistics and report to the Legislative Affairs (LA) lead on incoming Congressional requests (RFIs, Engagement Requests, Informal Views) and outgoing replies. Track sources such as HASC and SASC, as well as topics.Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is required. Must have at least 3 years of experience within the last 7 years supporting a legislative affairs office or congressional support team.
Responsibilities:
• Compile weekly statistics and report to the Legislative Affairs (LA) lead on incoming Congressional requests (RFIs, Engagement Requests, Informal Views) and outgoing replies. • Track sources such as HASC and SASC, as well as topics. • Triage incoming RFIs, ensuring clarity from the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense–Legislative Affairs (OASDLA) on Congressional intent. • Identify and assign each request to the appropriate CDAO Directorate Office of Primary Responsibility (OPR) or Office of Coordinating Responsibility (OCR). • Enter CDAs into the Correspondence and Task Management System (CATMS), assign them to the appropriate Directorate, track progress for on‑time delivery, and route the finished product for approval to the LA Lead, Office of General Counsel, OASDLA, and CDAO Principals. • Triage and assign “Green Sheets” (official Requests for Review/Action from the DoW Office of General Counsel) regarding legislation, legislative proposals, Executive Orders, and Department memos.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is required. • Must have at least 3 years of experience within the last 7 years supporting a legislative affairs office or congressional support team. • Experience working with the Correspondence and Administrative Task Management System (CATMS). • Experience working with the Congressional Hearings and Reporting Requirements Tracking System (CHARRTS). • Experience operating on a SharePoint system. • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and MS Outlook.
