Midwest Republican Senator and senior member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee seeks a legislative assistant to join their Washington, D.C. office. The LA will play a pivotal role on the senator’s national security team. They will work closely with the national security advisor and legislative fellow to manage a portfolio consisting of foreign relations, defense, technology and veterans’ affairs issues.
Responsibilities:
Duties include spearheading and advancing legislation; preparing written and verbal briefs; staffing the senator for Committee activities and relevant meetings; engaging with stakeholders; and working on the NDAA and appropriations processes.
Qualifications:
Candidates should be strategic, detail-orientated, and possess excellent written and verbal communication abilities. They should also be able to work well in a fast-paced, team-orientated environment. This is not an entry level position – candidates should ideally have at least 4 years of relevant work experience. Prior Congressional experience is strongly preferred but not required.
