The Office of Senator Slotkin is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and mission-oriented individual to serve as Staff Assistant in her Washington, D.C. office. The Staff Assistant will be the first point of contact in the office for constituents and visitors, assisting with a variety of essential tasks and providing support to ensure the smooth operation of the office. This is an entry level position.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Constituent Services: The Staff Assistant will manage the office’s main phone line, responding to constituent inquiries and directing calls to appropriate staff. They will be responsible for handling incoming correspondence, tracking constituent requests, and maintaining clear records to ensure timely responses. The Staff Assistant will also assist with processing and drafting responses to constituent mail and other outreach efforts. Front Office Operations: The Staff Assistant will manage front office operations and will assist constituents visiting Washington D.C., including with Capitol tours. Administrative Support: The Staff Assistant will provide administrative support to the Senator and senior staff, which may include organizing materials for meetings and assisting with office logistics. Cross-team support: The Staff Assistant may occasionally assist with legislative research, as well as tracking Senate floor proceedings. This role may also include helping to organize events, town halls, or other constituent outreach activities, working closely with other staff to ensure all logistical needs are met.
Qualifications:
Candidate Qualifications: Strong interpersonal skills are essential, as the Staff Assistant is often the first point of contact for constituents and other stakeholders. Excellent communication, organizational, and time-management skills are critical, along with the ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will possess professionalism, attention to detail, and a proactive attitude, with a strong commitment to public service. Familiarity with the legislative process and experience in a fast-paced office environment are beneficial, though not required.
