Senior Republican member seeks a highly-motivated and experienced Legislative Assistant to advise on economic and/or domestic policy issues. Candidates should have strong communication, research, and writing skills. An ideal candidate would be a strategic thinker, have a proven work ethic, and demonstrate a commitment to public service. The individual’s policy portfolio will be developed based on the applicant’s skill set and office needs.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include: developing and advancing the Senator’s legislative priorities; staffing the Senator at meetings and holding meetings with constituents; drafting speeches, letters, memos, and legislative materials; drafting legislative text and amendments; monitoring Senate floor activity, and developing vote and policy recommendations; monitoring policy issues in the individual’s portfolio; collaborate with communications and state staff; and supervising constituent mail in the legislative policy area.
Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will have at least a bachelor’s degree, 3-5 years of direct legislative experience on Capitol Hill or other relevant policy experience, and Midwest ties are strongly preferred. Interested candidates should be detail-oriented, self-starter, proactive, organized, and have experience working under short deadlines.
