Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) is hiring a Director of Communications to join his senior staff. Ideal candidates will have demonstrated a strong commitment to Sen. Sanders’ policy priorities, be highly detail-oriented, be able to coordinate numerous progressive policy issues in a fast-paced media environment, have meaningful personnel management experience, exercise good political judgement and be a fast, dynamic and seasoned writer and editor.
Responsibilities:
The Director of Communications is responsible for overseeing all communications, press and creative functions in the office, including the execution of communications plans; briefing and staffing the Senator; pitching stories; collaborating with policy staff; and editing communications content. The Director will also help coordinate interviews with national and local reporters, manage relationships with media outlets and provide on-the-record comment when appropriate. This is a management-level position and is not a junior-level position. This role is expected to travel with the Senator and be able to work in a rapid-response environment requiring odd working hours.
Qualifications:
The strongest candidates will have at least six years of experience in communications or public relations and will have exceptional writing, media management and strategic skills.
