U.S. Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock’s (D-GA) official office is hiring a Georgia-based Press Secretary or Deputy Press Secretary to immediately contribute to a dynamic and fast-paced communications team. Above all, the ideal candidate will have a strong appetite for engaging local media; a proven ability to multi-task; strong writing skills; and a positive spirit. This is not an entry-level position. Competitive candidates will have at least 2 years of professional communications experience, and/or at least 2 cycles of communications-related campaign experience. The ideal candidate is also strategically-minded, hard-working, creative, stridently detail-oriented, able to work under tight deadlines, and is a kind and gracious team player. Compensation for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience. The job is based in Atlanta, Georgia, with some intermittent travel required around the state and the potential for occasional travel to Washington, D.C. Responsibilities:
Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: Providing strategic communications expertise, and helping plan and execute short and long-term communications strategies; Preparing and staffing the Senator for in-state press events, interviews and select public events; Coordinating media interviews and other public appearances for the Senator; Drafting public-facing written materials for the Senator, staff, stakeholders and constituents, including speeches, brief remarks, scripts, talking points, opinion essays, and more; Ideating and pitching stories to local media; Meeting and checking in regularly with members of the press corps to develop relationships and source earned media opportunities; Ideating, planning and executing earned media events; Identifying and building relationships with constituents and stakeholders for earned media opportunities; Serving as the Communication team’s representative for all internal in-state communications needs; Reviewing constituent correspondence Effectively helping to implement day-to-day communications operations, as needed, and other duties as assigned.
